Mountains of Malaga
For nature lovers or people who are just looking for a place to relax and rest, the nature park "Montes de Málaga" is an ideal place to visit. The nature park counts 4995ha of protected forest with hiking routes and recreation areas.
Located at only 5 kilometres from Malaga Capital you can enjoy spectacular views over the Mountain ranges and the city of Málaga. Easy accessible from the highway (Malaga -Antequera) or the small towns Colmenar and Casabermeja.
The mountains are mainly covered with pine trees, planted in the early 30's to protect Málaga against flooding due to the river Guadalmina and heavy rainfall. Other trees which you will find in this nature park are: Olive and Almond trees.
In the nature park habits an extensive fauna and they have counted the presence of more then 151 animal species and even a larger number of invertebrates.
The fauna includes hawks, owls, eagles, badgers, weasels, foxes, frogs, snakes and also the Chameleon who is in serious danger of extinction.
The nature park is open during the whole year for public and ideal for bird watching, hiking, mountainbiking and botanical excursions.
