General information about Ronda
Ronda is situated in Malaga province, at about 100 km from the capital Malaga. Ronda is situated on a plateau of a large rock outcropping which gives picturesque views from nearly any part of the old town.
A charming mountain road with beautiful views links Ronda with the Costa del Sol.
Ronda is located on a altitude of 739 m and has about 35.000 habitants. The old part of the town retains its Moorish influence, with narrow streets and a number of interesting historical places to see.
REASONS TO VISIT RONDA:
- El Tajo
Also called The Gorge, 120m deep, which separates the old part of the town from the new part. Three bridges span over "The Gorge", of which the most famous one is "El Puente Nuevo", the New Bridge. We recommend you see "El Puente Viejo, the Old Bridge too.
- Historical town centre
Where you will still notice the Moorish influence with numerous interesting places to see such as: "Arabian Baths" (Baños Arabes), the "House of the Moorish King" (La casa del Rey Arabe)
- Plaza de Toros
The "Plaza de Toros" is open to public where you can visit a bullfight museum. Bullfighting in Ronda only takes place once or twice a year, which one of them during the spectacular bullfight of the Goyesca fair, the first week of September when the whole town recalls the 18th century days when Ronda was the lead of bullfighting in Spain. During this fair you can see the beautiful horse drawn carriages and traditional costumes.
