Malaga Airport Information from Malagaairport-transfers.com

Malaga Airport

The airport is located at 8 kilometres south-west from Malaga Capital and well connected to the main Costa del Sol motorways (A7 and AP-7).

The history of Malaga airport dates back to 1919 when Didier Daurat started regular flights between Malaga, Toulouse, Barcelona, Casablanca and Tangier. In 1937, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, Malaga Airport was transformed into a military base where air force training academies were set up.

In July 1946 Malaga Airport was re-opened for public flights, and in 1965 the airport received its official name: "Aeropuerto de Malaga". Nowadays more than 12 million passengers pass through the airport every year, most of them with destinations to and from the UK. One of the top airlines at Malaga Airport is Ryanair which accounts for about 21% of all flights; Easyjet comes second with a percentage of flights of around 15%.

Terminal 3

Malaga Airport New Terminal

Malaga Airport - Costa del Sol (AGP), with flight connections to over 60 countries worldwide, is the fourth busiest airport in Spain.

The airport has been recently expanded with a new terminal in 2010, T3, which is connected with terminal 2 (T2). The new terminal was built to increase tourism around Malaga and the Costa del Sol, and to expand the airport due to allow for these increasing numbers of passengers. All EU flights arrive and depart now from T3, while passengers flying to NON-EU countries will have to check in at the T2.

In the new Terminal T3 you will find a spacious commercial area with various tour operators, shops, cafes and restaurants.

In the same year the new terminal was opened, a new underground railway station was inaugurated as well, where you can enjoy, as in T3, the open and airy feel of the fabulous new steel and glass construction.

EU Arrivals

When you arrive at Malaga Airport you will be directed towards terminal 3. Once you have passed the passport control you will have to go to the new baggage reclaim hall, a modern system which can handle about 7500 suitcases per hour. In case you only have hand luggage you would still have to go past the baggage reclaim hall since it is connected with the exit.

Make sure you keep on following the signs, so you will be guided the correct way out to the Terminal forecourt, which is where the bus stops and taxi/transfer can be found. In the event that you have booked an airport transfer, your driver will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall.

Parking YOUR CAR

With the new terminal it is prohibited to park your car at the arrival and departure halls. You will have to park your car at the car park which has been recently renovated with seven floors and 2,500 parking spaces. This is also the case if you are just picking somebody up. At the departure hall, there is an easy drop-off point to drop off passengers; it is meant to be for people to only stop and go, so you cannot park there or leave your car unattended. Beware, any cars parked wrongly at Malaga airport will be fined and possibly even towed away.
